What is a Picosecond Laser?
Picosecond lasers are a type of pigment laser that destroys natural pigments (vascular lesions, melanin…) or exogenous pigments (skin tattoos, permanent makeup…). Its pulse width reached the level of picosecond, so it is called pico laser.
Advantages of Picosecond Lasers
Pico laser's pulse width is much narrower than classic Nd Yag lasers which is at the level of Nanosecond. The narrower pulse width, the stronger explore force and the less pain.
What is the best laser for tattoo removal?
Laser tattoo removal requires intense light energy. Depending on the wavelength chosen, photon particles are absorbed by a certain color and converted into heat.
The latter crushes the pigment into small fragments, which are then gradually digested by the skin's macrophages.
This is how the color pigment is magically destroyed and the desired hue fades.
This explains why the effects of tattoo removal end up in two phases: an immediate effect, when the pigment is broken down and diluted, and then a delayed effect, which is the topical removal of the pigment after about 2 to 4 weeks.
Difference between Q-switched lasers and picosecond lasers
The effectiveness of laser tattoo removal therefore depends on the energy delivered, but there are also potential risks: the higher the power, the greater the risk of side effects on the skin! This is where the Pico medical laser represents a real revolution, since its pulses are 1,000 times shorter than those of conventional Q-switched pigment lasers. Imagine that a picosecond is just one thousandth of a billionth of a second.
Picosecond laser tattoo removal is more effective
Thanks to the combination of several higher-powered wavelengths, the picosecond laser is effective for almost all tattoos, regardless of their complexity and the number of colors.
The greater the energy delivered, the better the micronization of the pigment, which allows it to be reabsorbed faster and more completely: the result is clearer, more even skin, accessible to anyone who wants to get a tattoo again.
On the other hand, it can sometimes be combined with a photothermal mode to rejuvenate the skin, thus enhancing its brightness and freshness.
The power of the Pico laser allows you to reduce the duration of your sessions, as well as their number and spacing. This is because both pigment absorption and skin healing are faster than with Q-switched lasers. While the classic regimen requires an average of 5 to 10 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, the speed of tattoo removal with the Pico laser can easily save 1 to 3 months compared to the full regimen.
Picolaser tattoo removal is safer
The high precision of the picosecond pigment laser allows it to be used on all skin types at high power without the risk of dermatological diseases.
During the treatment and healing process, the effects of heat or pain are effectively reduced, making each treatment more comfortable and achieving painless tattoo removal. The risk of rebound pigmentation or scarring is also much lower due to limited skin inflammation, which gives patients peace of mind.
